As part of the commitment of the University management under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Labode Popoola to always proffer solutions to society's developmental challenges, the University through the board of the Candido Da Rocha Trust fund on Wednesday, 16th of June, organized the 2nd Candido Da Rocha Annual Memorial Lecture at the Olagunsoye Oyinlola Auditorium. The lecture is one of the many ways the University use to deliberate and proffer solutions to poverty, economic recession, and other economic development issues that the nation is currently facing.

The Guest lecturer, the Dean of the faculty of Management Sciences of the University of Benin, Professor Leslie Eyesan Dabor, in the lecture titled "Sustainable economic Recession growth and development during a recession: Practical lessons and Professional Accountants' Solution" called on the governments and leadership bodies to effectively deploy research programmes in the field of Accounting to be able to reduce poverty and economic recession.

He further charged the Government to embrace transparency to improve economic growth and development while minimizing corruption.
In his lecture, "accounting has the potential to cure and curb recession and the proper deployment of accounting will limit the effect of recession on the economy and speed up recovery from recession.

"Our focus should be to deal with socio-lure and political oppositions to effective deployment accounting."

He further noted that "When there is economic growth, there will be a poverty reduction. Wherever there is growth, society transforms. When there is growth, inequality reduces.
"Economic growth creates employment. It is the basis for human development. One can grow and not develop, but one can't develop without growth. As the economy grows and human capacity develops, it develops the economy. Higher level of income reduces infant mortality."

The guest speaker added, "ethnic and religious sentiments should be removed through education because development cannot occur where such exists. He adds further that "development involves the empowerment of women, children and men. An increase in development increases life expectancy. It results in a high level of life expectancy. And Accounting plays an essential role in economic development."

Earlier in his opening remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Osun State University, Professor Labode Popoola, noted that "this 2020 edition of the Candido Da Rocha Annual Memorial Lecture was supposed to have happened last year but couldn't because of the global pandemic."

The lecture is held annually to honour late Mrs Abimbola AinaOmololu-Mulele, an educationist and a lawyer, whose donations to the Department of Accounting of Osun State University through the 'Candido Da Rocha Trust Fund'. The Fund aims to promote research fellowship in accountancy and enhance the industry in the development of society.
The Pro-Chancellor and the Governing Council Chairman of the University, Mallam Yusuf Olaolu Ali, SAN, charged Nigerians with closing remarks to maintain prudence in their personal life as it is a sign of success.
