Foundation Department
Established at the inception of the University in September 2007 as one of the two foundation departments in the College of Humanities and Culture.
IFRA Partnership
In January 2010, the Department entered into an agreement with the Institut Français de Recherche en Afrique (IFRA) for collaborative teaching and research.
Weekly Seminar Series
The Department organises a weekly Departmental Seminar Series that attracts scholars from within and outside Nigeria.

Programme Philosophy
The Department of History and International Studies seeks to provide liberal arts education with the highest breadth in comprehensive human experiences. It offers students the opportunity to study the past, not only for its own sake, but for the perspectives it offers the present.
The curriculum lays emphases on training students to understand the nature of evidence and how to interpret evidence, developing intellectual abilities useful for future careers in diverse fields.
Aims & Objectives

- Develop appreciation of historical forces shaping immediate environment

Institut Français de Recherche en Afrique
Under the IFRA agreement, Dr. Jean-Luc Martineau, a French historian and expert in historical methodology, co-teaches HIS 304: Methods of Historical Research in an adjunct ex gratia capacity.

Admission Requirements
Entry pathways into the B.A. History and International Studies programme
5 Credit passes in SSCE/GCE including English Language, History or Government, plus three other Arts/Social Science subjects in not more than two sittings. Acceptable UTME score and Post-UTME screening required.
Advanced Level passes in History or Government, plus 5 O'Level credits. ND/NCE with Lower Credit in relevant fields or acceptable UNIOSUN Foundation Programme pass also accepted.
