Brief Educational Profile

Dr. RUFAI, Akinlabi Mohammed holds a B.Sc degree in Zoology from Usman Dan Fodiyo University, Sokoto in the year 1999. He obtained M.Sc. in Environmental Parasitology and Ph.D in Parasitology from the University of Port Harcourt in the year 2006 and 2012 respectively. He was a Senior Emergency Response Supervisor at Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) Port-Harcourt, River State before joining the services of Osun State University. He attended Global Fund sponsored training course on Entomological Surveillance for malaria and its vector control, Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR). He is an Associate Professor of Animal and Environmental Biology, he has served as the Acting Head of Department of Animal and Environmental Biology (formerly, Zoology), Departmental Postgraduate Coordinator, Member, Faculty Examination Committee, Departmental Examination Officer, Departmental SIWES Coordinator, Staff Adviser to Students and Students Association , Departmental Representative on PowerPoint presentations and Currently Chairman Zoological Garden Committee and Departmental Project Coordinator. He is the current Vice Dean of the Faculty of Basic and Applied Sciences and the Managing Editor of the Uniosun Journal of Basic and Applied Sciences, a journal publication of the Faculty of Basic and Applied Sciences of Osun State University. He is a member of the State Advisory/Expert Committee for the Control of Neglected Tropical Diseases in Osun State, appointed by Osun State Government on the recommendation of Federal Ministry of Health since 2017 till date He has TETFUND Institutional Research Grant to his credit. He is a Co-Principal investigator on Entomological Surveillance for Mosquito resistance to pesticides in communities in Osun State, Nigeria, sponsors by Global Fund Foundation since 2018-till date. His area(s) of specialization in Zoology include: Environmental Parasitology, Public Health Parasitology, Impact Assessment of Parasitic Diseases and Control, Ecology and Environmental Toxicology, Environmental Impact Assessment, Biopesticides Engineering, Wildlife Ecology, Conservation and Management. His on-going research is focused towards controlling soil transmitted helminths (STHs) and other neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) in Nigeria and identifying Entomoparasitic nematodes for the bio-control of vectors of parasitic diseases and pests of agricultural products. Dr. Rufai has designed and supervised students’ projects of about 41 undergraduates and 15 postgraduates of Osun State University. He has quality scientific publications majorly in the field of Parasitology and Environmental pollution with a total of Forty-five (45) articles in refereed journals.
