Current/Recent Research

My current research adopts a multidisciplinary approach that integrates plant ecology, ecophysiology, soil microbial ecology, environmental biotechnology, and ethnopharmacology to understand plant adaptation and ecosystem functioning under changing environmental conditions. A major focus has been on the ecophysiological responses of plants to abiotic stresses, including drought, cadmium toxicity, and nutrient deficiency, to elucidate mechanisms of stress tolerance and resilience. In collaboration with international and local researchers, I have investigated nanotechnology-based approaches for phytoremediation and mitigating heavy metal stress in crops. My recent work also advances understanding of plant-soil microbe interactions and their roles in nutrient cycling and ecosystem sustainability. More recently, my research has expanded to biodiversity conservation, plant functional traits, vegetation ecology, and ecosystem carbon dynamics, particularly carbon sequestration in forest, savanna, and urban landscapes. As a botanist, I also explore the nutritional and medicinal potential of selected plant species, linking ecological and ethnopharmacological studies to support climate change mitigation, sustainable agriculture, food security, and One Health.
