Current/Recent Research

My recent research work provides data on the isolation and partial genomic characterisation of predatory bacteria known as Bdellovibrio spp as well as their potential application in controlling Gram-negative bacteria commonly associated with chronic wound infections. It also included the isolation and identification of Klebsiella and Enterobacter spp from chronic wounds. Future research ideas in this area include the further isolation and characterisation of additional Bdellovibrio spp. and bacteriophages, as well as the exploration of suitable delivery options for their therapeutic applications.
My current research focuses on active surveillance of the ESKAPEE pathogens from post-operative wound infections particularly the Gram-negative members. This study will further contribute to the knowledge on the multi-drug resistance patterns of these organisms, and this will subsequently guide the search for alternative therapeutics.
For future research, I intend to hone my expertise in the area of predatory and applied microbiology to further isolate and characterise more predatory bacteria with biocontrol potentials and apply them in the best possible way.
