President Jonathan Appoints Uniosun Professor to Head a 7-Man Visitation Panel

Jonathan Goodluck_presidente_NigeriaPresident Goodluck Jonathan has approved the appointment of a 7-man visitation panel, headed by a Professor of Agronomy in the College of Agriculture of Osun State University, Professor Olurotimi Tayo, to unravel allegations of fraud and poor
management system against the Governing Council and management of the Federal Universit y of Petroleum Resources, Effurun, Delta State.

The Minister of Education, Professor Ruqqayatu Rufai who made the announcement while inaugurating the visitation panel in Abuja, stated that the panel was constituted following series of petitions received in her office. The panel is expected to investigate the inability of the institution to attract and employ qualified staff to fill critical vacancies; find out channels through which federal government’s subventions are misapplied and the reason for disregard for protocol and tenets of the public service rules by the university management. The Panel is expected to come up with useful recommendations that would assist the government in taking appropriate decisions concerning the University. The Minister listed other members of the panel as Ikenna Onyido, Chris Tamuno, Abdu Gimba, Adamu Ahmed, P. Oshio and Ori Okojokwu.

While reacting to the appointment, the Vice-Chancellor of Osun State University, Professor Sola Akinrinade said Professor Tayo is an experienced scholar and administrator and wished him success in the assignment. The Vice-Chancellor recalled that in 2011, two former staff of the institution were appointed foundation Vice-Chancellors of Samuel Adegboyega University, Ogwa and Adeleke University, Ede while the Acting Provost of the College of Education of Osun State University, Professor Oladega Soriyan was also appointed by Ogun State Government as member of a visitation and fact-finding panel for Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta. He promised that Osun State University would continue to raise men and women imbued with the requisite skills, knowledge and competencies to be the arrow heads of the socio- economic and technological development of Nigeria.
