The Osun State Government and the management of Osun State University on Friday paid a thank-you visit to renowned philanthropist and Chancellor of the institution, Apostle Folorunso Alakija, in recognition of her decade of impactful service to the university and humanity.

In a statement issued by the University Public Relations Officer, Ademola Adesoji, the delegation, led by the Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke, and the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Odunayo Clement Adebooye, visited Apostle Alakija as part of activities lined up for her valedictory service, scheduled to culminate on Wednesday, May 13, 2026.

Speaking during the visit, Governor Adeleke, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, His Excellency, Prince Kola Adewusi, commended Apostle Alakija for her outstanding contributions to the growth and development of the university and Osun State at large.

Adewusi described Apostle Alakija as a rare philanthropist whose interventions had significantly impacted education, healthcare, and infrastructural development in the State.

He particularly lauded her support for the construction of the access road to the university, as well as the donation of the ultra-modern Modupe and Folorunso Alakija Medical Research and Training Hospital. Adewusi noted that the hospital exclusively donated to the Osun State University is a living legacy and major support for medical education and high-level health care.

According to him, the humanitarian gestures of Apostle Alakija and her family would continue to leave enduring legacies in the lives of many people.

Also speaking, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Odunayo Clement Adebooye, expressed profound appreciation to the Chancellor for her unwavering support and commitment to the institution over the past 10 years.

He noted that Apostle Alakija’s tenure had brought immense growth, visibility, and transformation to the university, adding that members of the university community wished her tenure could continue beyond its expiration.Osun Alakija 2

The Vice-Chancellor also presented a progress report on the world-class medical research and training hospital donated by the Chancellor, assuring her that the university management remained committed to sustaining the facility as one of the leading medical and research centres in Nigeria and beyond.

Responding, Apostle Alakija gave glory to God for preserving her life to witness the successful completion of her tenure as Chancellor of the university.

She appreciated the Osun State Government and the university management for the honour accorded her through the visit.

The philanthropist disclosed that despite receiving numerous requests for appointments from different organisations, she accepted the invitation from Osun State University after seeking divine direction through prayers. "I received the Divine guidance to build the hospital for the Osun State University", she said.

She maintained that she remained committed to obeying God’s instruction and contributing meaningfully to humanity.

Apostle Alakija further encouraged individuals to contribute their quota, no matter how little, towards making society and the nation a better place.

“Everyone can make a difference in their own little way. We should all contribute to nation-building and humanity,” she said.Osun Alakija3
