Osun State University, Osogbo, will on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, make a significant academic statement as it hosts the first-ever University Lecture in its history, with a focus on one of the most pressing national issues, the funding of education.

Themed "Interrogating Funding of Education: Global versus Nigerian Perspectives", the landmark event will take place at 12 noon at the Olagunsoye Oyinlola Auditorium, Main Campus, and will be featured by one of Nigeria’s foremost public administrators, Honourable Olufemi Hakeem Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

A highly respected statesman, seasoned legislator, and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Gbajabiamila is expected to bring to the fore decades of governance experience and global exposure as he proffers sustainable pathways for resolving Nigeria’s perennial education funding challenges.

In a statement issued by the University’s Public Relations Officer, Ademola Adesoji stated that the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oduayo Clement Adebooye, described the lecture as a bold step by UNIOSUN to shape National policy conversations and reposition higher education through strategic intellectual engagement.

“This is more than just an academic event; it is a call to action,” Professor Adebooye remarked. “We are deeply honoured to welcome Honourable Gbajabiamila to our University. His pedigree and leadership experience will enrich the discourse and inspire solutions that can move Nigeria’s education system forward.”

Professor Adebooye further noted that the lecture reflects the University’s unwavering commitment to fostering dialogue, influencing policy, and deepening public understanding of critical issues affecting tertiary education in Nigeria and globally.

The high-profile event is expected to attract dignitaries from government, the academic community, international organisations, the private sector, and traditional institutions, making it one of the most anticipated intellectual gatherings in the state this year.

All invited guests, stakeholders, and members of the public are encouraged to attend and lend their voices to a conversation that holds the promise of educational transformation.
