The 3rd Biennial Lecture in honour of the late Professor Taiwo Adegboyega Adewole was held on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at the Olagunsoye Oyinlola Auditorium, Osun State University, Osogbo.
The lecture brought together dignitaries from across Nigeria-family members, academics, traditional rulers, and students-all united to celebrate the life and enduring legacy of a man who laid the foundation for UNIOSUN’s medical programme.
Event Highlights
- Keynote Lecture: Prof Rahman Ayodele Bolarinwa delivered a groundbreaking lecture on immunobiology and sickle cell disease, highlighting Nigeria’s position as the global epicentre of the condition and the pioneering contributions of Prof Adewole to prenatal diagnosis in Nigeria.
- Tribute by the Vice-Chancellor: UNIOSUN VC, Prof Clement Odunayo Adebooye, delivered an emotional tribute, describing Prof Adewole as a man who “left the world better than he met it.” He recounted the revival of UNIOSUN’s medical programme and the recent induction of 90 pioneer medical doctors.
- Royal Presence: His Majesty, the Timi of Ede, Oba Munirudeen Adesola Lawal, graced the occasion.
- Gift Presentation: The Timi of Ede and the Vice-Chancellor presented a gift to the guest lecturer, Prof Bolarinwa, in recognition of his contribution.
About Prof Taiwo Adegboyega Adewole
Professor Taiwo Adegboyega Adewole was the pioneer Provost of UNIOSUN’s College of Health Sciences. His academic credentials include:
- B.Sc in Biochemistry – University of Ibadan (1974)
- PhD in Biochemistry – Obafemi Awolowo University (1982)
- MBBCh – University of Calabar (1985)
- Fellowship – West African College of Physicians in Laboratory Medicine (1996)
He was instrumental in establishing the first research medical laboratory for HIV/AIDS treatment at the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR) and made pioneering contributions to prenatal diagnosis of sickle cell disease in Nigeria.
