Departmental Chronicle
The Department of Geography was established in the Faculty of Social Sciences, College of Management and Social Sciences in 2007/2008 Session. The first set of fifteen (15) students were admitted into B.Sc Geography. Professor Temi E. Ologunorisa, the first Professor appointed in the University, served as the Pioneer Head of Department.
Rapid expansion with specialists joining the faculty: Dr. S. G. Odewumi (Associate Professor in Urban Geography & GIS), Dr. Adetunji A. (Transport Geography), Dr. Andrew Onwemelle (Rural Geography), and Dr. Yakubu Samuel (Soil & Biogeography). Sabbatical scholars included Dr. H.I. Jimoh (Geomorphology) and Dr. E.O. Oriola (Soil & Biogeography) from University of Ilorin.
A leading hub for Climate Change research with strong ties to national agencies like NiMet, NCRS, and the UNIOSUN Centre for Climate Change and Environmental Research.

The philosophy of the Department of Geography, Osun State University, Okuku Campus is to produce graduates who are environmentally literate, sensitive and skillful. It also seeks to produce graduates who can make objective contributions to national development by providing solution(s) to natural and man-made environmental problems arising from environmental abuse and make the surface of the earth to be functionally appropriate and sustainable. Geography is seen as a discipline concerned with both the biophysical and human environment.
Broad Aims
- To teach the understanding of both the biophysical and human environments, and the relationship between the two.
- To impart the skills, methodologies and analytical techniques required to conduct in-depth research in human and biophysical environments and their interactions.
- To impart the ideas and concepts of rational management with respect to the planning, conservation, restoration, and sustainable use of environment.
- To give students a deep knowledge of the principles of spatial and temporal organization of natural and human phenomena on the earth's surface.

Admission Requirements
UTME / 100 Level Entry
5 Credit passes in SSCE or equivalent including English Language, Mathematics, and Geography, plus two other relevant Science, Social Science, or Humanities subjects in not more than two sittings. Acceptable UTME score and Post-UTME screening required.
Direct Entry / 200 Level
Advanced Level passes in at least two subjects including Geography. ND/NCE with Lower Credit in relevant fields or acceptable UNIOSUN Foundation Programme pass also accepted.
