Can a modern-day selfie be traced to ancient human history? This thought-provoking question took centre stage on Thursday, 29th January as Osun State University hosted its 28th Inaugural Lecture, delivered by Professor Babatunde Decker, at the Olagunsoye Oyinlola Auditorium.
Osun State University has once again reinforced its growing reputation as a centre of academic excellence, with six of its academic staff members listed among the Top 500 Scholars in Nigeria, while Professor Charles Adetunji of the Department of Biotechnology emerged as the Number One Scholar in the country.
Osun State University (UNIOSUN) has recorded another landmark achievement in its quest to produce globally competitive graduates, following the international recognition of one of its alumni, Dr. Temitope Adeniyi, who recently emerged as the only Nigerian among 100 scientists honoured by UNESCO.
The Vice-Chancellor of Osun State University, Professor Odunayo Clement Adebooye has approved the appointment of Professor Oguntola Jelil Alamu of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, as the Acting Provost of the Postgraduate College, effective Monday, January 5, 2026. The appointment comes as part of the University’s ongoing efforts to strengthen leadership and enhance academic excellence across its postgraduate programmes.

The Governing Council and Management of Osun State University, led respectively by the Pro-Chancellor, Professor Wale Oladipo, and the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Odunayo Clement Adebooye, on Wednesday, 5th November 2025, paid a courtesy visit to the University’s Chancellor, Apostle (Mrs) Folorunso Alakija, in Lagos for the official signing and handover ceremony of the Modupe and Folorunso Alakija Medical Research and Training Hospital to the University. The historic event took place at the Famfa Towers, Ikoyi, Lagos.

A final-year PhD student of Osun State University (UNIOSUN), Oluwadamilare Dauda, has made the university and Nigeria proud by winning the Young Scientist Award from the National Veterinary School of Toulouse, France, in recognition of his groundbreaking research on blackfly transmission of onchocerciasis (river blindness) in southwestern Nigeria.
