Biosketch:

Olufemi Akanni is a Professor of Haematology and Oncology in the Department of Medical Laboratory Science, Osun State University, Osogbo. He holds a PhD, FMLSCN, AIBMS, UK, Cert. Epid. & Global health (Scotland).  He is the current Head of Department of Medical Laborartory Science.  His research activities are based on application of biotechnology techniques to solving haematological problems in areas such as molecular haematology - monitoring of minimal residual disease (MRD) in AML & CML patients and molecular detection of mutations in haemoglobinopathies and thalassemias.  His current research is on cancer and related drug development from natural products for the treatment of haematopoietic and solid malignancies using in vitro and in vivo methods. He was appointed a full Professor in 2018 and has taught for 20 years. He was the principal investigator in a Clinical Trial study on “TriAntiMal” a new antimalaria drug on Nigerian children in Osogbo, Osun state, Nigeria (NAFDAC registered) in collaboration with the Cancer Research Institute of West Tennessee, USA.
