Welcome Address/Introduction:

Welcome to the Department of Haematology and Blood Transfusion.
This department is dedicated mainly to the training of medical students and some allied health sciences students including Medical Laboratory Science.

Haematological diseases are common in our environment and these include Sickle Cell diseases (HbSS, HbSC), the Acute and Chronic leukamias and the Lymphomas. As a result it is an implicit component of the subjects the medical student must be conversant with in pathology (Faculty of basic Clinical Sciences)

The department is also involved in medical research with other disciplines and sister institutions.

We are also involved in organizing yearly blood drives to mark the world blood donation day.
So also dissemination of information to increase awareness of sickle cell disease is a priority for us and this is carried out every year by outreaches to the general population. Issues concerning HIV/AIDs are also disseminated to the public through the media (radio) on the 1st of December every year (Worlds AIDS Day).
The medical students are significantly involved in these programmes especially the first two programmes.

Location:
The department is located in the faculty of Basic Clinical Sciences, College of Health Sciences, Osun State University, Osogbo.

Brief History:

The department was established in 2021 with Prof. V.O. Mabayoje as the head of the department. Prof. Durosinmi M.A. later joined as a Contract Staff.
Prof. R.A. Bolarinwa is presently an adjunct staff of the department.
Mrs. Oguntola is presently the Assistant Chief Laboratory Scientist.
Mrs. Ajani is the Confidently Secretary while Mrs. Oyehan is the Office Assistant.

Mission:
To disseminate current up to date knowledge and practices in Haematology and Blood Transfusion to the medical students and other students passing though the department both in the form of lectures and practical sessions.

Vision:
1. To be known as a department that places significant emphasis on the knowledge, state of the art practices in Haematology and Blood Transfusion world wide.
2. To produce students that will be distinguished in the knowledge and practice of Haematology and Blood transfusion world wide.

Academic Programme:

The department is involved in the training of medical students and medical laboratory sciences students.
A schedule of lectures and practical sessions is designed for each class. So far we have have three classes of medical students ,400L(A), 400L(B) and 400L(C).

400L(A) will be arriving in July 2024 for their final (Advanced) posting before attempting the 2nd professional exams in medicine.

Physical Development:

The department is based in the faculty of Basic Clinical Sciences with the offices of the head of the department and other lecturers based there in.
The laboratory scientists have their offices in the medical laboratory complex adjacent to the haematology laboratory for teaching and demonstrating to students.

Research Activities:

Research activities are ongoing and results of findings published in reputable journals.

Grants and Awards:

Members of staff are presently collaborating with researchers in other Institutions including Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital.

Community Empowerment Service Projects:

As mentioned earlier the department is very much involved in this especially with regards to blood donation and sickle cell disease awareness.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration & Development)

Welcome Message:
The office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration & Development) is one of the units in the Vice-Chancellory. The office is usually headed by a Professor known as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration & Development) and assisted by administrative, sectorial and clerical staff.

Professor Bello, Afeez Adefemi was appointed as the current Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration & Development) on 16th June, 2021 for first two years’ term after the end of the tenure of the pioneer Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration & Development) in person of Professor Janet Olaitan- a professor of Microbiology. Professor Bello was reappointed for the second term on 16th of June, 2023 which will lapse on 15th of June 2025. Before his appointment as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration & Development) in 2021, he had earlier been Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Environmental Sciences for about five years; Head, Department of Civil Engineering; Chairman, Direct Labour Committee for the University. He had been Chairman of over twenty adhoc Committees and member of several university committees. He had also been consultant to several geotechnical investigative studies and highway projects. He has over 2 decades experience as a Lecturer.

Professor Bello is an alumnus of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology where he bagged his first degree (Civil Engineering) with second class upper division in 2001, University of Ibadan for his Masters (Civil Engineering) in 2005 and Ahmadu Bello Zaria for his Ph.D. (Civil Engineering) in 2010 with specialization in Geotechnical and geo-environmental Engineering. He has published extensively in local and international papers and has also presented many papers in both local and international conferences.

Office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration & Development):
The office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration & Development) supports and assist the Vice Chancellor in ensuring effective and efficient administration and judicious use of manpower and resources. The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Adminstration & Development) provides strategic leadership in formulation of policies in implementation of administrative, financial, human resources, security and maintenance of physical infrastructure.
Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration & Development) also supervises, directs and evaluates subordinate staff to ensure that administrative objectives, goals and strategic mission of the university is achieved. Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration & Development) also assists the Vice Chancellor in creating a conducive, comfortable working and learning environment for teaching and learning in conjunction with other units of the university.

- Renovation and rehabilitation of all College buildings across our six campuses
- Headed the Committee that recommended car and housing loans to many members of staff
- Assisting the Vice Chancellor in monitoring all projects delivered within the stipulated completion time.
