DR. MONSURU ADELEKE RECEIVES TWENTY-FIVE MILLION NAIRA (N25,000,000) BILL AND MELINDA GATE FOUNDATION GRANT

breaking-newsThe Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has awarded sum of twenty-five million (N25,000,000.00) to one of Osun State University’s Researcher and Scientist, Dr. Monsuru Adeleke of the Department of Biological Science in the Faculty of Basic and Applied Sciences of the College of Science, Engineering and Technology.

The research grant awarded to Dr. Adeleke, a Public Health Entomologist and Parasitologist alongside other scientists from the Federal Ministry of Health is valued at about seventy thousand US dollars ($70, 000.00).

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation through The Task Force for Global Health and Neglected Tropical Diseases Support Centre (NTD.SC) selected his proposal entitled “Xenomonitoring of black flies in LGAs in Nigeria that have completed Filariases Transmission Assessment Survey (F-TAS)” being the frontline submission among many others from different parts of the world and for its importance towards the improvement of the field of public health.

According to the grant letter, “the proposal, addresses an important research question identified as a specific priority by the Neglected Tropical Diseases Community”. The approving authority for the grant expressed willingness to work with the researchers in finalizing the budget and contract to support the work. The approval was communicated to him vide a letter dated 15th August, 2017 which stated that the team reviewed the proposal on 20th June, 2017 and approved it on 11th July, 2017.

Dr M.A Adeleke, an Associate Professor is currently the acting Director of Academic Planning at UNIOSUN, also serves as consultant to various International organizations in the area of vector-borne diseases and molecular epidemiology. These organizations include among others, World Health Organization, Jimmy Carter Centre (USA) and African Programme for Onchocerciasis Control.
The Vice Chancellor, Professor Labode Popoola while congratulating Dr. Adeleke enjoined him to continue to be a shining star, good ambassador of the university and never to relent in his research work, which has continued to be of great benefits to the entire tropical areas world.
