NUC CONDUCTS RESOURCE VERIFICATION FOR 8 PG PROGRAMMES

matricThe Management of the University last week received the resource assessment team from the National Universities Commission (NUC) who, at the instance of the University, came in respect of carrying out resource assessment exercise for the commencement of some Postgraduate programmes.

The courses put forward by the University for assessment are M.A International Studies; Master in Intelligence and Strategic Studies; M.A History; M.Sc./PhD GeographyM.Sc. Biochemistry and M.Sc/PhD Microbiology. Others are Professional Masters in Risk Management and Professional Masters in Environmental Management. The team visited Okuku and Ikire Campuses of the University where some of the courses are resident while similar exercise had been carried out in Osogbo campus earlier.

Briefing the Management after the exercise, the representative of the NUC, Mr Rasheed Mustapha expressed satisfaction with what are on ground for the proposed courses and enjoined the University to keep up the pace at which the University is growing. The team drew the attention of the University to some areas that needed improvement.

Responding on behalf of the University, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Adekunle Bashiru Okesina thanked the NUC for spearing time to come for the exercise, expressing the hope that the University will be given the nod to commence the programmes very soon. He said he was impressed by the observations and genuine critics the team made, assuring the team that the target of the University is not on the basic requirements but that her target is on achieving the best with the resource available.

The Vice Chancellor promised to effect changes to all observed suggestions saying that the University knows the implications. The team to Okuku Campus included Prof. J.F. Olorunfemi of University of Ilorin and Prof. Leo Moghalu of Imo State University. The NUC team for Ikire Campus included Prof. Celestine Bassey of University of Calabar, Prof. Leo Otoide of University of Benin and Dr. Amos from Nigeria Defense Academy (NDA), Kaduna. The NUC officials in the team were Mustapha Rasheed and Mr. B.A. Agaba, both of Department of Academic Standards.
