UNIOSUN PARTNERS WITH OGI/DSN TO TRAIN STUDENTS ON ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

In keeping to its promise of grooming and producing a high quality, well–rounded, globally competitive and entrepreneurial graduates who are catalysts for rapid and sustainable socio-economic development, the management of Osun State University through its Digital Innovation and Business Start-Up Hub (DIBUSH) has recently partnered OGI/DSN to train the University students on Artificial Intelligence with the theme: AI Invasion between Monday, 2nd and Friday, 6th of August 2021 at the DIBUSH center of the University.

Ọpọlọ Global Innovation Limited (OGI) is an innovation enabler for trailblazers who need infrastructure and support networks to grow, and for investors who need promising start-ups and ideas to invest while Data Science Nigeria (DSN) is a non-profit organization registered as Data Scientists Network Foundation with the main aim of developing Nigeria’s AI ecosystem and position the country as a world-class AI skill, research and outsourcing destination with opportunity to access 2-3% share of the estimated global Artificial Intelligence GDP contribution of up to $15.7 trillion by 2030.

The Coordinator of UNIOSUN DIBUSH, Dr. Oluwafemi Abanikannda while describing the nature of the event, stated that the university would be partnering with Opolo Global Innovation Limited and Data Science Nigeria for the empowerment of UNIOSUN students. He noted that the training is part of the commitment of the institution to develop world class talents, techpreneurs and entrepreneurs within the university via strategic partnership and collaboration.

The objectives of the training among others will include: understanding the core concepts of machine learning, both theory and code, having hands-on practice of machine learning coding during class sessions that can be coded by trainees on their own, performing simple exploratory data analysis and interpreting the results, doing simple visualizations, developing a simple machine learning model, exporting predictions to a CSV and participating in a competitive Kaggle hackathon at the end of the training.

The training will be officially declared open by the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Labode Popoola by 10a.m. on Monday 2nd August at the Olagunsoye Oyinlola Auditorium of Osun State University and guests are expected to be seated by 9:30a.m” Dr. Abanikanda added.
