Department’s Welcome Address/Introduction:
It gives me great pleasure to welcome our distinguished guests to this great platform. Cyber Security is one of the most sought-after professions of the 21st century. The Department has grown significantly over the last two years since its creation. The most senior students are now in their 200 level. For the next decade, we aim at becoming one of the most innovative and vibrant departments in Nigeria. The focus of this programme is to equip students with the knowledge, understanding and skills to gather, analyze, develop and present evidence gained from computer systems in a professional way. This degree would also help our graduates to understand the impact of cybercrime and events upon business and to be able to identify and implement specific security practices, features and techniques to enhance the security of computer based systems. The related fields are: Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems and Data Science.

Brief History:
The Department of CYBER SECURITY is one of the pioneer Departments in the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology (FOCIT) of Osun State University, established on September 12th, 2022. The existing Department of Computer Science gave birth to four new Departments; out of which CYBER SECURITY is one of them.
The Department started with one Professor, two Senior Lecturers and one Lecturer II. But now, the Department has a Professor, one Associate Professor, one Senior Lecturer, Three Lecturer II with one Technologist. Six-two students registered as pioneer students of the Department during 2022/2023 academic session, which are now in their 200 level at the University. In the following academic session (2023/2024), 150 students registered within the Department. The total students’ population in the Department currently stands at 212.
Mission: The mission of this Department is to create a unique unit committed to the pursuit of academic innovation, skill-based training, and a tradition of excellence in Teaching, Research, and Community Service.

Vision:

To build capacity and develop human capital in the field of cybersecurity, and to safeguard business transactions as well as corporate assets nationally and globally. In other words, the cybersecurity programme is to equip graduates with the knowledge and skills required to protect people, computers, networks, programs, data and other critical infrastructure from attack, damage or unauthorized access.

Academic Programmes
B.Sc. Degree in Cyber Security

Physical Development:
Our faculty building is currently under construction at the main campus of the university.

Research Activities:
Our ongoing research proposes to apply image processing techniques for early detection and diagnosis of COVID-19 cases across the country. This project aims at providing novel contributions by developing a new algorithm/model to address some of the problems in the existing technologies for COVID-19.

Welcome Address:
The discipline of Software Engineering focuses on producing graduates who are ready to develop and maintain quality software systems of scale for organizations and businesses within the constraints of time, budget and other requirements. In addition to its core computer science technical foundation, Software Engineering also involves human processes that are harder to formalize than the logical abstraction of computer science. The discipline therefore borrows and adapts from traditional engineering practice as well as from the field of project management. A focus of a Software Engineering specific curriculum must be able to develop students into software engineers through course work, practicals and applied project experience.

Brief History:
The department of Software is one of the pioneer departments in the College of Science, Engineering and Technology of Osun State University established and inaugurated in 12th September, 2022. The department took off with total of 78 students and department currently offers BSc. Degree in Software Engineering. The department currently have two sets (100L and 200L respectively) of student who running their degree programme in the university.

Mission:
Achieving the goals and objectives of the National Policy on Industrialisation and Self-Reliance.

Vision:
(i) To develop and utilize the practical skills acquired in software architecture and design, software metrics, verification and validation, requirements and analysis and the software engineering process for the production of software-based systems.
(ii) To develop expertise in programming in a number of different languages with emphasis on the production of robust, reliable, cost-effective and secure codes that are based on sound design and development principles and adapted to the needs of a developing and emerging economy such as Nigeria in a technically professional manner.
(iii) To be able to produce and manage high-quality software-based solutions with long life-cycles especially for large or complex systems
(vi). To develop the understanding and engineering and entrepreneurial skills needed to become the architects and project leaders building systems in which software plays a critical role
(vii). To leverage on Software Engineering as the driving force behind the new technologies that are transforming the way we live and work
(viii). To have the requisite knowledge and skill base for further academic and professional development in Software Engineering.

Academic Programmes: B. Sc. Software Engineering

Physical Development:
There are three functional laboratories (Digital Laboratory, Software Laboratory and Hardware Laboratory) that serve the acaddemic programme of the department. The laboratories are well equipped to cope with the teaching of students and for the use of academic staff for research purposes. Classrooms and Lecture rooms are shared with other department in the College.

Student Handbook for each department:
The handbook is written for staff and students of the software Engineering. It is a compendium of information on academic programme and activities of the Department. The handbook provides detailed and necessary information on the vision, mission, philosophy and objectives of the department in addition to basic entry requirements curriculum admission and course descriptions of Bachelor of science (B.Sc) degree programme in Software Engineering. The handbook will be useful for both staff and students. The department has so much to offer and be assured that your choice of this great department is right and you could not have made a better choice!
