Nephrology, Hypertension and Diabetes Mellitus
Biosketch:
Professor ALEBIOSU Christopher Olutayo is a Consultant Physician and a fellow of the West African College of Physicians, with major interests in Hypertension, Diabetes and Nephropathy. He was appointed the Provost, College of Health Sciences, Osun State University from 2011 August to September 2016, and was re-elected to the same office for another 4year which ended on July 31, 2023. He had his BSc & MBChB degrees from the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife between 1978 and 1985 and his postgraduate medical training at the University College Hospital, Ibadan in 1999.
In 2004, he was honoured with the Nigerian University Commission Award for Indigenous Research. He also won the competitive training fellowship awards in 2003, 2005 and 2008 under the auspices of the International Society of Nephrology, the International Society of Peritoneal Dialysis, the World Diabetes Foundation and the International Diabetes Foundation.
He was the Principal Investigator of some research projects, including three international projects sponsored by the World Diabetes Foundation (between 2008 and 2016); the Competitive Agricultural Research Grant Scheme Project in collaboration with the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria and the Olabisi Onabanjo University; and some TETFUND institutional grants within the Osun State University. Also, in 2002, he was awarded a Certificate of Excellence for outstanding performance and lasting contribution as a reviewer by a Medical Journal based in the United States.
He was one of the organising secretaries of the 2nd International Conference on Drug Discovery and Therapy in Dubai in 2010. He has also hosted major scientific conferences and regional meetings in Nigeria. He was registered with the Health Professional Council of the Republic of South Africa, and he is a member of many national and professional bodies.
He was a member of the Governing Council of the Osun State University between 2013 and 2016. Subsequently, he was appointed a Visiting Professor, under the Global Health Scheme by the Yale University between 2018 and 2019, but seconded to Liberia to help develop the medical postgraduate programme of the war torn country.
He has co-authored several professional textbooks and educational books for the common populace. Outstandingly, the Essential Textbook of Medicine, is a contemporary, comprehensive but concise textbook of Medicine authored by over one hundred and fifty medical academics and researchers in various specialities in Medicine.
He is currently an examiner both at the medical undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He is the current Editor of the Research Journal of Health Sciences, and foundation Editor-in-Chief of the UNIOSUN Journal of Sciences.
He is currently on accumulated leave at the University of Medical Sciences, Ondo where he has been appointed the Dean, Faculty of Clinical Sciences on August 1, 2023.
