VC INAUGURATE NEW DEPARTMENTS IN IKIRE CAMPUS spotlightThe Department of Languages and Linguistics at the College of Humanities and Culture (CHC) of the Ikire campus of the university was formally disbanded on Tuesday, February 20, 2018.

And gave birth to three new departments of English and International Studies, French and International Studies as well as Linguistics and Communication Studies. The now defunct department of Languages and Linguistics had existed as one of the two departments at the Ikire campus since foundation of the university in 2007. The creation of the additional three new departments thus bring the number of the department at the CHC to four –

The acting Provost of the College, Dr. Ibiloye in his welcome address, expressed his joy that the college dream of expanding the departments in college has finally come to fruition. He thanked the Vice Chancellor, Professor Labode Popoola and members of the management in attendance for the continued support.
The vice chancellor while inaugurating the new departments congratulated the entire staff and students of the college for the great feat achieved and urged them not rest on their oars. He also admonished the staff to continue to work in unity to enable growth and development in the college. The vice chancellor thereafter presented letters of appointment to the appointed Heads of the department.

Dr. Uzoma E. Chukwu - Department of French and International Studies
Dr. Aderogba Adeyemi -Department of Linguistics and Communication Studies
The new HODs’ appointment will terminate on July 31, 2018.

Dr. Fasan, the former head of the now defunct mega department of Languages and Linguistics now head of English and International studies in his reaction to the creation pointed to the many advantages that comes with the creation of three new departments from the former Department of Languages and Linguistics, “is the considerable ease it brings to administering the new departments. There is much focus, commitment and a greater sense of responsibility and identity on the part of staff and students of the different departments”. He adds further that, “as an individual and the Head of Department that midwifed this process, I feel a great sense of satisfaction that our efforts were not in vain and relief that my task has been reduced. So I'm immensely grateful to the Vice Chancellor and all other individuals that have been part of this”
